Tomatoes scientific name: Lycopersicum esculentum.
The tomato comes from South America, in particular from the tropical and sub-tropical regions of Peru and Ecuador and is, after potato, the world’s best known vegetable.
The tomato was initially considered a medicinal plant and, through the Spanish possession of Naples entered, in the sec. XVI, the Italian cuisine with the name “golden apple” or “golden boss”. The tomato was diffused throughout France through Genoa and it was mainly used to beautify the balconies.
Organic tomato is a food with a complete nutritional profile, that is full of minerals and vitamins as well as rich in lycopene and poor in calories.
